ELECTRIC LIGHT EXTENSION
ENGINEER'S REPORT. Tim electrical engineer. Mr. 11. Black, reports* to the Borough Council as follows in connection with tne electric light extensions!, etc.: - Powerhouse.—The carting of shingle was started last week, and. with the present line weather, good progress is being made. An excavation has been made at the side of the present tail race to determine the nature of the ground. The surface is apparently part of an old swamp, now fairly well drained. After sinking from six lo seven feet, a. firm lie<l of grave] was met with. Owing to the number of boulders and quantity of water encountered, work was discontinued after sinking through about three feet: of this gravel. With an cllicient pump and suitable firrangemciiti for handling the spoil, this ground should not be dillicult to excavate, and it should stand fair!v well.
Some more of the poles on order have come to hand, about one-half now being delivered.
Owing to the number of new consumers recently connected, our supply of meters is about exhausted. Those on order may be here any time now, but so far we have had no advice of their shipment.
Tenders for the forelny and pipe-line in connection with the intension have been referred by the lxirough Works Committee to the electric light engineer to consult with tin 1 consulting engineer. Mr. W. 11. Climie, and arrange for a definite recommendation to be placed before the Borough Council on Mondav night next.
