Kilosteri and Vi made the cnrlv running. The latter led into the straight. There were half a dozen in it. Rover and Woodhe-y fought a great finish, the latter finishing strongly, winning by a narrow margin, Smilax looked to have a winning chance at the distance, but then faded out of the contest. Ormond's horses, Vega, Altcar and Wood'hey, won three successive rues, mid Morecambe was second in the Shorts. ' <" r 'WWr3! Teru wa« n. warm order in the Hurdles, but h:td no chance with Euroro, who won very easily. Vqga won itlio Maiden practically all the way. Fipitaeapa. shaped indifferently, and Crown Pearl ran greenly. Maori Maid was unlucky, and must do better; later on.
The Hack Steeple saw Wirral, the best-hacked favorite, ran off early. Maidi, \Vhat«sliot and Whimper foil, leaving the outsiders, Rebel and Grey Dawn, to come home in that order, a furlong apart.
Ol'livcr piloted Sandy Paul to victory in the Welter, after a good race. Midi'in and Awlia cost the knowing ones a lot of money in this event.
The weather was fine, and promises well for the second day's races.
