ARBITRATION COURT
IItOXWOKKERS' DISPUTE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Applications for exemptions from'the boilennakers' award by the Wellington Harbor Board, the Union Company, and builders employed in .structural steel works, were strongly opposed by the ironmasters' representative before the Arbitration Court to-day. Mr. Justice Sim criticised the abuse of the preference system. The ironmasters contend that the Union Company is entering into competition with private employers by repairing the steamer liegulus ami building in steel frame structures, work hitherto done bv legitimate engineers. Unless the tendency was cheeked the engineering trade was faced with ruin. The Court reserved its decision on the applications.
