HOCKEY.

LADIES' TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand Indies' hockey tournament's third day's play was continued, with a bleak southerly wind blowing and frequent rein showers in the morning. The weather had moderated considerably by the time the tournament commenced and bright sunshine and splendid grounds put heart into the. players. As good exhibitions* of hockey, the games fell far short of the second day. The only game in which any fine hockey was disphiyed was in the llawke's Bay-Mann-watu B. fixture. Although Hawlce's Bay won by a large margin of points, Manawatti played a good combined game.

The defeat of Auckland by Bullor was a, surprise; also Wellington's win over the West Const, hut the last-named team has entered ft. protest against the referee for not allowing a goal which in his opinion wis shot between the posts from outside the circle.

Hawke's Bay defeated Manawatu B. by 6 to 2. It was an excellent contest, and credit is due to the Manawatu team (composed of mere girls) for their display against tho champions. From the commencement they rushed play twice in succession to Hawke's Bay's territory, and once missed an easy chance to score. Eventually the. latter took charge and Miss Pitt scored by turning a pass from Miss Crowley into the net. Manawati* again attacked with vigor, but, beisg too slow in the circle, lost any chance they might have had of scoring a goal. A long spell of even play followed. howk«*s Bay then were busy defending, and some good play by Manawatu wa» seen. Close on half-time Hawke's Bay scored a second goal through Miss Crowley's agency, and two minutes later Miss I. Bailey scored Manawatu's goal by a brilliant piece of individual play. In the second half each team attacked in turn. The Hawke's Bay forwards were too experienced for the younger team, but they only scored four goals in this spell by strenuous battling. Miss Pitt made'tlie next wore by running through and hitting beautifully. Manawatu retaliated from the buliy-off, and shot hetwen the posts, but the goal was disallowed for off-side play. Miss Crowley registered the next goal from a gliding pass from the left winger into the net, and also secured a fifth goal from a penalty bully, given for Manawatu's custodian falling on and hiding the ball. The final goal came from the stick of Miss Crowley, the centre forward. Mr. B. Kean refereed.

Wellington B. beat West Coast by Z goals to 1. There, was not much to pick between the teams, play for the major portion of the game being up and down the field,, each team in turn having to defend its goals. West Coast forwards were nn improvement on Mia second day, but played too far forward at time. In the first half, Miss Barnett, for Wellington, scored the only goal of that spell, and in the second spell Miss Benge scored the winners' second goal, •while Miss Lindsay registered the West Coast's solitary score from a penaltybully. Mr. C. Searcll refereed.

Buller beat Auckland by 8 goals to 2, after a poor game. The winners on their play certainly did not merit such a hollow victory. Buller'B play was unscientific, and Auckland lost many opportunities through the forwards hitting too lightly in the circle. In the latter half of the second spell Auckland should have been awarded two penalty bullies for players keeping the ball hidden under their skirts. The scorers for tho winners were Misses 11. Mackay (2), D. Greenland (2). A. Hale and E. Vitaglioh;' and for Auckland. Misses'Kenny and Wylie. Mr. R. Tinney refereed. After a keen but uninteresting struggle, Manawatu A beat Wanganui by 2 to nil, Miss Collins scored a goal in the first spell, and. Miss Kerslake in the second spell, Both teams showed combination. Mr. F. Ryan refereed. Canterbury A beat Marlborough by 3 to nil. Play was decidedly poor, and there was no combination on either side. Canterbury scored the only goal in tho first half." Mr. A. W. Bennett was referee.

Nelson B defeated Canterbury B by 3to nil. It was a fairly fast and even game. The winners were superior in combined rushes, in which way all their scores were obtained. The scorers were Misses Harris, Carrick and Simpson. Southland bent W« intra pa by 3 to 1 after a keen contest. The scorers for the winners were Misses Searell (2) an d Marsli, and for Wairarapa Miss Gallon.

'Following are the teams to meet at Inglewood on Thursday:—

Southern Division.-—Forwards, Sage, Sargent, Button, Froyer; halves, Thomson, Bassett; full-backs, Curtis, Anderson; goal, Evens. Emergencies, Cameron, Ilurrell. Kemp, Northern Division.—Forwards: Sutherland, Priest, Spurdle, Harris; halves, Allen, Harris, Wellinm; full-backs, Reid Avery; goal-keeper, Stevens. '
