TARAHUA CLUB. The following is the result of the first round of the club championship: C. M. Hill meat J. G. List, I up; H. F. Law beat W. TT. Perham, 1 up; W. Douglas beat G. Grey, 1 up; R. Batty beat W. , H. Broome, 5 up and 4. In the second round Baily plays Hill, and Douglas pkyt Law. The mixed foursomes semi-final will be played on Saturday afternoon next, the [following being the draws:—Miss Avery and Hempton v. Miss White and J. G. | List; Miss E. Putt and Neal v.' Miss F. ■ Putt and Goudie, the latter conceding a stroke to the former at the second, fifth and eighth hole in each round. The ladies' match will also be played on Saturday. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. AN AUSPICIOUS START. Wanganiui, Last Night. For years past it has been the fond hope of Wnngnmii golfers that the local links should be the scene of a championship meeting. The desired honor haa at last been achieved, and this morning bsiw the opening of the 1911 championship meeting of New Zealand. Large numbers of golfers are competing, including the champions of the Dominion. The weather to-day was excellent, the breere prevailing being hardly worth mentioning. The links were in excellent order. In fact, one well-known professional declared that he could not understand why the council had thought it necessary to send a committee of enquiry prior to granting the meeting to W r angaiiui, the ( links being all that could be desired.
