HARBOR REPRESENTATION
THE WAITARA BOARD. The Clifton County Council yesterday discussed a letter from Mr. G. A. Thompson, secretary of the Waitara Harbor Board, forwarding copies of resolutions passed at a special meeting of the Board — "That in order to secure equitable representation it is desirable that the constitution of the Waitara Harbor Board as delined in the first schedule of the Harbors' Amendment Act, 1910, be amended by providing that the six elective members be elected as follows: Three by the electors of the Clifton county, whose qualification is within the harbor district; two by the electors of the Waitara borough, and one by the electors of the county of Taranaki within the harbor district; (2) That a copy of the resolution be sent to the Minister of Marine, and that he be requested to make the necessary provision as requested, and that Messrs Jennings, Okey and Hine, M.P.'s, be requested to assist; and also that the Clifton County Council, Waitara Borough Council and Waitara West Road Board be asked to pass resolutions supporting the proposed change."
The chairman said that he had considered the question, and had no fault to find with the basis of representation suggested, although on a valuation basis Clifton would be entitled to at least four members out of the six. He moved that the Council support the Harbor Board's recommendation. This was carried.
