THEFT OF A PICTURE.
AN ARREST PENDING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. New York, August 31. The Collector of Customs declares that an American art connoisseur" en route to the United States is suspected of having been concerned in the theft of Leonardo da Vinci's picture, "Mona Lisa," from the Jaiuvre. His arrest is probable when he reaches New York. Paris, August 31. Owing to the theft of the. picture La Gioconda (a portrait of Mona Lisa) the Director of the National Museums and the keeper of the Louvre have been dismissed for negligence.
