It is reported from Charleston that a wireless operator, named Rheesley, aged sixty, when the liner Lexington was caught in the quicksand on Hunting Island, stuck to his post. Twelve terrorstricken passengers sought to abandon vessel, hut Sheesley ran amongst then'. 'i rging them not to do so. Sheesley. when the waves were washing over the ship, cli:>ihed the rigging, fixed the wirele-- apparatus, and continued sending out r'i'ssages for aid. A revenue cutter answered the call and saved the passengers. The crew, however, refused to al.mdon the ship. It i.s believed that the vessel is a total wreck. Two firemen are reported to have been burned to death when the vessel struck.
