TO IMPROVE BRISBANE HARBOR. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright. Brisbane, August 30. In the Assembly the Treasurer delivered the Financial Statement. The revenue for the "year was £273,800 above the estimate, leaving a surplus of £5271, the estimated revenue for the current year showing an increase of £453,580, and the expenditure an increase of £453,896, with an estimated surplus of £4955. The proposals include increasing the port accommodation at Brisbane, at a cost of over £BOO,OOO. The Estimates provide £IOO,OOO for increasing the pay of the lower grade railway employees. The Treasurer claimed that there was abundant evidence that Queensland had continued to progress in a marked manner. He hoped the losses in the sugar industry, as the result of the floods and the strike, would not be so great as were at one time expected.
