DISTRICT NEWS.
• WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondent). I regret to report thr death of Mr. and Mrs. Duggan's eldest boy, who died at the New Plymouth Hospital last week. The lad was ill only a short time. Much sympathy is felt for Mr. and Mrs. Duggan. Mr. and Mrs. Still and family arrived here last week to take over the farm on the Ruakerc road they have leased from Mr. Simeon. The milk supply at the factory is increasing considerably now, and the factory has been running every day for some weeks. Most of the old faces have once more put in an appearance at the factory. The Puniho toll-gate, which was to have been sold on Wednesday last at Stony River did not find a purchaser. It was left at Mr. .1. Clarke's shop to be cleaned and painted after its long rest of about twelve months in the bottom of the Stony river, and on Tuesday night it was taken away and, I understand, this time it was found broken up, so this is probably the end of the iron toll-gate.
The local school was closed for a few clays on account of an outbreak of measles, but has now been re-opened.
A basket social was held in the hall on Wednesday night in aid of the hall funds for the purpose of erecting additions to the hall. There was a fair attendance. The music was supplied by Mr. Knowles, and Mr. M. Thoruell acted as M.C. The baskets were sold by Mr. T. E. Larking (a license being obtained), but did not realise a very high figure,' the highest being five shillings.
The directors of the local factory met last Thursday. A large number of butter and cheese buyers were present. After considering all offers, the butter output to the end of September was sold for HVad and the cheese from October 1 4o the end of May, 1912, was sold for 6 l-16d per lb, this price being the best the company has ever received, so the farmers are very pleased with the results, and are hoping for a good season.
Messrs ITart and remvarden have finished removing Mr. 11. IH'lhanvs bouse on the Warea road to Mr. E. Julian's farm on the Daily road. The house was removed in two pieces. •Our local storekeeper, Mr. T. .E. Julian, has sold his business to Mr. Ken. Andrews, and is leaving the district this week.
