ALLEGED SPIES ON TRIAL
IN ENGLAND AND GERMANY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, August 28. The case of Schutz, the German who was recently arrested on a charge of espionage, is proceeding at Plymouth. The evidence shows that he made local friendships while yachting, and endeavored to ascertain how far naval circle* considered that Britain's support of France on the Moroccan question was in earnest. He also enquired regarding the naval movements. Questions were answered after a consultation with the authorities for the purpose of the prosecution. Prisoner forwarded the information to the German Government.
INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE. "COOKED" INFORMATION SUPPLIED TO 6CHULTZ. Received 29, 9.45 p.m. London, August 29. Schultz gave two men questions seeking information on the Moroccan situation, and the strength of the British navy, at the end of July. The men sought police advice, and "cooked" answers were supplied to Schultz, for which the men received £llO. A number of letters were produced. One stated that information should be obtained from officers in active service. In the last letter Schultz complained that the information was worthless, and terminated the arrangement. Stewart, the English Yeomanry officer recently arrested on a charge of espionage, has been ordered to undergo trial at Leipzig.
