A DECISION QUASHED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland. Monday. Mr. Justice Edwards quashed the decision of the Kaiparn Licensing Committee in cancelling the license of the Maropin Hotel. Kaipara, mainly on the ground that Mr. Trounsen, a member of the committee, residing at Northcote, and though occasionally residing with his daughter at Maropin, .he is not legally a resident of that licensing district. BATTLE OF THE ROUTES. Te Kuit.i, Monday. A large meeting of settlers at Piopio on Saturday passed a resolution asking that a Royal Commission inquire into the merits of. the Aria-Waitewhemia route -as an alternative to the Ongarue route for the Stratford Main Trunk railway, on the ground that the Minister for Public Works expressed his opinion that it was the better route. ILLEGAL BETTrX^. Napier, Monday. For illegally betting at the Hunt Club races John Laidlaw was fined £3O and costs, and William Ballnm for a similar _, 'offence was fined £2O. THE P.RUNNTjU MINE NOT CLOSING. Clivistehureh. Monday. The manager of the North Dimmer Coal Company denies the telegraphed report that the mine has been closed down. He ordered a temporary stoppage pending the consideration of proposals made Iby London, which may .necessitate a modification of the development of the mine.
