FOOTBALL.

i THE SECONDARY SCHOLS TOURNA-1 I MHNT. I I PALMERSTON 27 v. NAPIER 0. Another interesting anil attractive game of school football was witnessed by an appreciative crowd at the Recreation Grounds on Saturday afternoon, when Palmcrston met and defeated Napier by 27 points to nil. The match counted for the triangular shield and Poison banner. For the . former, both Palmerston and New Plymouth have a, leg-in, and much interest ■will attach to the meeting between Napier and New Plymouth this afternoon. The Poison banner is for competition between Napier and Palmerston, and the latter will thus retain it for the year. Palmcrston had much the better of the game, the combination of their backs being excellent, and as the forwards were evenly matched the back machinery was able to do effective work. | Individually, several of the Napier players did good work, but concerted play was lacking. Their defence was fairly sound, and they played a plucky game to the end. The Rev. J. B. Scott (Kaponga) refereed. Palmerston kicked off, and, attacking from the jump, Napier were penned until Parker with a fine kick up field relieved. Munro made a fine opening, but Kerr failed to take a pass, and Hannah getting in a nice kick, transferred play to midfield. The Palmerston backs came again, but fan! ,y handling saw Hannah intercept, and he was just taken in time by Irvine. Good kicks by Fawcett and Chegwidden brought Napier into the Palmerston 25, but it was very brief. Luxford kicked out near mid-way, and from the throw-in Young passed to Muiiro. The latter put in a fine run, but was grassed on the line by Reed, and from the scrum a force gave relief. ! The kick-off found the line at half-way. Stubbs passed to Young to Munro, who held on too long,: and was smothered. A free kick gave, Napier a- breathing ; space.
