NEARLY A HUNDRED CASUALTIES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 27, 5 p.m. New York, August 26. A passenger train on the Lehigh Valley railroad jumped the track. Two cars rolled over an embankment sixty feet into a creek. Thirty people were killed, and 60 injured. All the occupants of the dining-car were killed instantly. Many veterans returning from the Grand Army of the Republic encampment, held at Rochester, were among the victims. The train was running fast to make up lost time. A defective rail caused the disaster.
