She discharged on Saturday and proceed afterwards for Onehunga.

An outstanding feature in this year's shipping to Australia has been the large number of timber-laden vessels that have , made Sydney their terminal port. The i tonnage that lias come forward during the past month or so has nexer been approached. Last year-'s imports to New South Wales of 50,000,000 ft were a re-! cord; but the results to date indicate that the present year will have an even larger aggregate. The amount already in from oversea ports comes to 30,000,000 ft, and there are in steamers and sailers about 27,000,000 ft coming forward. Adding to this the inter-State trade and the almost regular arrivals from New Zealand, this year's imports of timber will probably not be less than the enormous trade of 68,000,000 superficial feet. Most of the wood has been landed in the rough lumber. One reason for this is the difference in tariff. Timber dressed is charged a duty of 30s per 10(H) superficial feet; while timber undressed, if 12ft fiin or over, has to pay only 5s per 1000 ft. Merchants have evidently realised that this difference of ,25s more than compensates for cost of the milling and labor there. I OVERSEA VESSELS. ! FOR WELLINGTON. | From London—(N.Z. Shipping Col).
