THE ROYAL PICTURES.

A vividly interesting series of cinematograms were shown at the Theatre Royal on Saturday afternoon and evening, the outstanding feature being the variety of subjects and the excellence of their production. "A Republican Marriage" is a moving drama in which the emotions are much played upon, the main events being enacted with astonishing realism and point. The Scripture story of Ruth and Boaz (one of the finest of its kind in literature) is superbly pictured, and pourtraya remarkably the devotion of one of the most charming women written of in the Great Book. In the Japanese picture, showing our agile brown friends plaving With death in the rushing rapids in the north of Nippon, there is perfection of detail and a wealth of coloring alluring to the artistic sense. In the numerous oomedy pictures there is much good wholesome humor, and it is one of the feats of cinematograph comedy that the players can impart their humor solely by actional! undeniable' feat. "Love Denied Him" is nn especially good > drama, in which the heart interest is held from first to last. The Australian Gazette gave remarkable glimpses of current happenings —a picture newspaper, in fact, in which sport and pastime, both of man and horse, are depicted with a completeness that needs but the shouting football or racehorse crowd to make one feel the green turf beneath the foot. Madame Melba's arrival is in itself a highly interesting picture, for it shows how very devoted the Australian people arc to their supreme singer. There was a fino muster of Palmcrston North, Napier and New Plymouth High School hoys, and the whole audience showed the highest appreciation of thp fare presented. The applause was particularly strenuous for the fine pictures of the TaraiwkiWanganui football match, and many of the players were recognised and wiled by name. Jack Stohr's enjoyment of an orange at half-time especially tickled the risible faculties of the crowd.

There will be no show to-night or on Tuesday or Wednesday nights, the Royal Pictures going to Waitara.
