SPLIT IN THE LABOR PARTY
ON THE REFERENDA VOTE. By OaWe—Press Association—Copyright, Sydney, August E3. The conference laughed out a motion that Messrs, Holman and Beeby be expelled from the movement. Speaking on a motion censuring members for not having supported the referenda, Mr. Hughes and others failed to arouse enthusiasm. Mr. Holman, replying, attacked Mr. Hughes, and declared that three matters of five in the referendum proposals were not in the Labor platform and hot binding on members of the party. Us contended that the State party was not bound to follow the Federal party in matters not in the platform. This statement was greeted with cheers. After _the...confe.rence. had adjourned ■Mr. Holman stated that the Government (of New South Wales) had every reason to be pleased at the attitude adopted.
