A SUCCESSFUL AKI-'AIR. The ladies and gentleman who were responsible for inaugurating last night's euchre party and dance in aid of the 'Western Park fund* have every reason ■to be pleased with the-result of their efforts, as the public responded nobly, the Brougham street hall beingr.filled by about 200 peopk'. Kor the progressive ecuhre about 40 tables were occupied. Mr. V. Beale controlled this portion of the evening's entertainment, and after about two hours' play the count up resulted: Ladies' first prize Miss Gregory, second prize Mrs. Robertson; men's first prize Mr. Arnold, second prize Mr. N. West. The prizes were presented by the chairman- of the Western Park Board. Mr. G. W. Browne, who referred to the fact that the board was utilising its funds in improving the people's own park. The successful players were also the recipients of floral offerings from the ladies' committee, the ladies receiving bouquets and the gentlemen buttonholes. The ladies' committee, under the supervision of Mrs. 11. Ward, had arranged a bounteous supper, every delicacy having been either provided by or donated to them, and they were most assiduous in their attention to the material wants of the crowded audience. Dancing was indulged in vigorously for several hours to excellent music rendered by Mrs. Woods on a piano lent the committee by Mr. Hoffmann. Mrs, Coppen played an extra. Mr. W. McLean as M.C. filled his position capably and courteously. The committee intend holding fljnother social in about a fortnight.
