THE ROAD RACE.
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Tajan&ki Circular Road Race Committee was held in the Criterion Hotel on Monday evening, Mr. W. J. Williams presiding. Appreciative reference was made to the great work done in connection with the race ibj the lion, secretary, Mr. J. McLeod. It was unanimously decided to present him with a large framed (photograph of the committee and a bonus of £lO 10s, which will foe guaranteed by the members of the committee. The allegations made against W. S. Kofoed, who secured ninth place in the race, that he had ridden on a footpath at Kapomga, contrary to the rules of the race, was brought before the committee. The question, however, was deferred until further particulars were obtained, statements having been made that it was G. Kofoed, who retired from the race, who rode on the footpath. The lion, treasurer, Mr. E. Whittle, furnished a tentative balance-sheet, which indicated that, when some outstanding subscriptions are collected, the finances will be just aibout "square." Messrs. J. Clarke, J. C. Morey, senr., and W. C. Weston were appointed a subcommittee to collect outstanding subscriptions. A vote of condolence with Mr. G. Griffiths, a member of the committee, who has suffered bereavement in, the loss of his mother, was carried, the members standing.
