FRANKLEY ROAD ASSOCIATION
There were about forty present ill the
first monthly meeting held in the Frankley road gymnasium last night in connection with the Frankley Road Settlers' Association. ,\lr. Gibson, president, expressed pleasure at the attendance, which *hoWed the interest taken in local matters. The association had been formed to forward the interests of the district, and also to talk over any matter of interest whether educational or otherwise. Periodical meetings would be held, although as yet no code of rules had ibeen drawn up. The association had been formed as an afterthought at a meeting convened for the purpose of organising a concert for the Agricultural Hall fund. Another suggestion had been made there, including; one that a SundaySchool should be formed. This had been taken up. The subscription to the Settlers' Association had been lixed at Is per annum. This was the first publicly called meeting of the association. Mr. Garner asked whether the officers hud been elected .permanently at the private meeting, or only pro tern. He objected to a meeting being called privately to deal with public matters. He would like to know who had convened the meeting. The chairman said that no one had convened the private meeting. It simply arose out of a meeting called for the Agricultural' Ilall. It was resolved that membership be confined to residents on the Frankley road, Frankleigh Park and Veale road, ' It was decided that the president (Mr. ,T. Gibson) and the secretary (Mr. N. Allen), who were elected at the first meeting, are to continue in office. Messrs. J. 11. Frethcy, A. Lister, (i. Tippins, Boswell and E, S. Allen, with the president and secretary, were appointed an executive, and will draw up rules for consideration at the next meeting. A petition form was received, to ibe signed as a requisition to the Gas Company for the gas mains to be extended. As there was a movement on foot for a Greatpr New Plymouth and electric, light, it was decided that the petition lie on the table. Meetings will be held on the last Tuesday in each month at the Frankley road gymnasium. The association will endeavor to arrange lectures from an officer of the Stock Department, from Mr .Harrison, agricultural chemist, and Mr. Gordon, poultry expert. Various matters of detail were dismissed to he brought before, the notice of the County Council. Votes of thanks were accorded l to Mr. Hoffmann for the use of his piano, and t.o the ladies for their assistance at the recent concert.
