A SUGGESTION. Parliament may have next week another opportunity of discussing the Mokau land transactions. Mr. Newman, member for Manawatu, has given notice to ask the Acting-Minister for Lands (Mr. Buddo) whether he will consider the expediency of resuming for the purposes of closer settlement that block of land known as the Mokau Block, containing 50,000 acres, the freehold of which was recently sold by the natives at 10s 4d per acre to a pi rate individual with the consent of the Government. In support of this suggestion, Mr. Newman submits that, in view of the extremely low price paid for the land in question when compared with recent values paid by the Government under the Lands for Settlements Acts, the Government should have been able to dispose of 'the block referred to on terms unusually advantageous to small suttleri. •
