LATE CARDINAL MORAN
ENGLISH PRESS NOTICES. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. London, August 17. The press generally makes reference to the loss Australian Roman Catholics have sustained by the death of Cardinal Moran. Allusion is made to his militancy and his increasing efforts for Home Rule in Ireland.
THE LYING IN STATE. Sydney, August 13. Cardinal Moran is lying in state at St. Mary's Cathedral. Thousands viewed the body last night. A special gazette refers to the public loss sustained by the Cardinal's death, and directs that flags be half-masted on the Government buildings. The messages of sympathy include cablegrams from Archbishop Redwood, the Bishops of Auckland, Dunedin, and a number of Catholic bodies in New Zealand, and two from Rome. One of these was from the Vatican; the other reads, "The Irish College mourns its guide, benefactor and friend." PAINFUL DEMONSTRATOINS OF GRIEF. Received 18*10 p.m. Sydney, August 18. Enormous crowds thronged the Cathedral throughout the day in an endeavor to view the Cardinal's body, which is lying in state. Hundreds were unable to gain admittance. There were painful demonstrations of grief. The interment has been postponed till Sunday. IRISH PARTY'S CONDOLENCE. Received 18, 10.30 p.m. Sydney, August 18. Mr. Redmond, M.P., cabled to the late Cardinal Moran's secretary the Irish Party's sorrow. At the request of the Irish Party Mr. W. Redmond, jun., M.P., is returning from Brisbane to represent the party at Cardinal Moran's obsequies. „ •
