FIRES.

THREE HOUSES DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. A fire at Petone early this morning destroyed three 7-rooined houses. Two were owned by George Lee and one by William Lee. ' Each house was insured for £275, one in the South British Office and the others in the Atlas Fire Office. The fire started in the house occupied by W. Lee, whose furniture was insured for .£l5O in the South British Oflieo. The house wa9 totally destroyed. The fire then spread to an unoccupied house, which was in flames when the brigade arrived. The third house was occupied by Bowatcr, and went next, but in this case most of the furniture, which was insured for £IOO 111 the South British Office, was saved. The hrigtido was greatly handicapped in its work, as the nearest fire-plug was a quarter of a mile away. LARGE RESIDENCE DESTROYED. Masterton, Last Night. A disastrous fire occurred' here tonight, when the large two-storey residence of Mr. Donald Donald, containing about fourteen rooms, was totally destroyed. The insurances are £IOOO in the United Office on the house, and £250 on the furniture.
