CIRCULAR ROAD RACE.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR TO-MOJll«ptf> The most valuable road fece in 'Au#f tralasia is to be decided in Turanaki to-morrow over the "Round the Mountain" course. The limit riders will be dew patch ed from Burgess and Fraeer's at 8.30 a.m. sharp, the scratch men leaving at 9.20. Tile riders should pass through Oka to from 9.40 to 10.25, Rahotu 10.30 to 11.5 a.m., Opunake 11.10 to 11.40, Kaponga 12.35 to 12.55, Eltham 1.15 p.m. to 1.35 p.m., Stratford 1.40 to f p.m., Inglewood 2.25 to 2.50 p.m., Lepperton 2.55 to 3.20 p.m., Recreation Ground 3.35 to 4 p.m. These times are, of course, only approximate. The committee specially ask that farmers endeavor as far as possible to keep stock of the roade at the times the riders will puss the various points. The committee also request motor cyclists and drivers of motor-cars to keep out of the way of the competitors. After the regrettable, though unintentional incident in the Waitara race, it is hoped nothing will occur that will leave room for question as to whether riders accept pace. To do so will earn any rider disqualification. Riders are notified that their bicycles will he sealed and tags issued at Mr. A. George's shop from 7.30 this evening.
All riders are requested to be at the Drill Ilall at 7.45 a.m. (not later) tomorrow, when the committee wish to secure a group photograph of the competitors. Every rider must present himself in the Drill ITall not less than thirty minutes before his advertised time of starting in the race. The committee apjieal to tho public not to encroach on the streets at the start of the race, hut to remain on the footpaths. There is plenty of room for all to view the start without encroaching. Mr. Williams has kindly placed the balcony of his hotel at the" disposal of ladies who wish to view the start. Similarly, at the finish of the race in the Recreation Grounds, the committee hope the public will not encroach en the roadway in Liardet street, or the roadway in the grounds, but remain on the terraces. Riders may be seriouslj handicapped by thoughtlessness on the part of the public. Riders will have their numbers and feed bags containing bananas, chocolate, raisins, sandwiches and celery, seTved out in the Drill Hall half an hour before their time of starting. Hot milk will be served at Brooker's Hotel (Okato), Knowles' Hotel (Opunake), Raspers' Hotel (Kaponga), Coronation Hotel (Eltham), and Rhodes' Stratford Hotel (Stratford).
Riders will require to drop a tag in the official bag at Opunake and Eltham. Programmes of the race are now on sale; price 6d. Subscribers to the funds of the committee are requested to forward their donations to-day. In connection with the race the committee has arranged for results to be wired from all the towns en route, and posted up in the Recreation Grounds as received.
_ The committee- is holding a seven-a-side football tournament to provide entertainment during the .progress, of ..,the race. The tournament, for which six teams are entered, will start at 2 o'clock sharp. Admission to the ground is one shilling, and as the committee is still short of fundß, it is hoped the public will respond' in large numbers. In the evening' a splendid concert programme, arranged by Mr. Renaud, will be submitted in the Theatre Royal, The programme is advertised in another column. During the evening the total prizes, £3OO, will be distributed to the successful riders. Popular prices, two shillings and one shilling, will be charged.
The prizes are now on view in Morey & Sons' window, and yesterday attracted much attention. The Cup should have reached New Plymouth last night, but was not procurable. The Cup is « beautiful specimen of the London silversmith's art. It is valued on the programme at 50 guineas, but is stated to have cost a good deal more. Mr. Edwards, managing director of the Britannia Tyre Company, the donors of the Cup, arrived in town last night for the race.
A meeting of the race committee was held last night, when al] arrangements were completed for the race. The protest of N. Christiansen against Roebuck, the winner of the Waitara road race, was considered at length, and a good deal of evidence taken. The protest was dismissed, and the protest deposit returned. A resolution was carred "that, in the opinion of the committee, the motor cyclists acted injudiciously, and the committee hopes there will be no cause for complaint regarding motorists on Thursday."
