THE POPULATION RETURNS. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Capetown, August 13. The census shows that the population of the South African Union of all races is 5,938,490. The Europeans' number 1,278,026, the natives 4,061,082, and the rest arc from other countries. The feature of the returns is the shrinkage in the coast towns, except Durban, and the increased population in Johannesburg and Pretoria. There has been a steady increase in natives and other colored races.
