THE SUGAR WORKERS' STRIKE.

Strike matters are qui,et. Both sides are waiting for details of the Brisbane conference.'

The steamer Mintaro, with 2000 tons of sugar aboard, has arrived. After a couple of hours at the wharf, she was ordered to Newcastle, ostensibly for bunker coal. No attempt was made to discharge the sugar. Melbourne, August 14.

Mr. Hughes has received a telegram to the effect that the conference has arrived at an agreement. The conference will meet again to-night. Mr. Fisher declines to discuss the suggested, remission of the Customs duty on sugar.

THE STRIKERS AGGRESSIVE. Brisbane, August 14. There was great excitement at Mackay when a crowd of a thousand strikers scoured the town for frea laborers, and severely chastised them when caught. A policeman who was protecting five laborers was struck by a stone. Several arrests were made.

Similar scenes took place at Bundaberg, the sight of a free laborer being the sign for riotous behaviour on the part of the strikers.

STEAMERS REFUSE SUGAR iidf . Received 14, 8.30 p.m. Brisbane, August 14. Two steamers have arrived n! Brisbane. Neither will carry sugar.

INTIMIDATION. Received 15,1.10 a.m. Melbourne, August 14. A grocer who bought a ton of the Aramac's sugar went to remove it, ana was intimidated by the pickets. Mr. Johnson, manager of the Miliquin Sugar Company, accompanied him to the wharf, and personally loaded the sugar.

THE LITIIGOW STRIKE. Received 15, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, August 14. At a public meeting held at Lithgow it was resolved to request the Federal Government to withdraw the iron bonus from Hoskins, Limited, until the men's demands were granted.
