ENTERTAINMENTS
SAUNDERS' PICTURES. It was a delighted crowd of firstnighters who packed every particle il sitting and standing accommodation at Whiteley Hall on Saturday night. Evidently a crowd of regular patrons are determined not to miss the first night showing, and the musical aecompanimoL-' by Messrs. Oolding, Cooke and Cottier. It <"-:uM indeed be hard to conceive of -mi/ prison leaving at the conclusion of Saturday night's entertainment in an unsatisfied state of mind. During the evening we saw beautiful stretches of "The Blue Nile," and native habits, made r, thrilling journey in and around ''The t.'olden Shell," Palermo, Sicily; sav the King and Queen at the "Pageant of Empire, May 10, 1911," and finished our journeyings in a beautiful snow-clad region, viewing "How Winter Decorates Nature." In between our glorious wanderings we saw high-class star dramas by Lubin, Kalem, Edison and Tannhausef companies, namely, "The Test," "The Stronger Tie," "From Tyranny to Freedom" and "Sunshine and Tempest." Travel and drama were not our only pleasures. For a time we forgot all trials and troubles in the humorous situations and screaming absurdities of "A New Hat for Nothing," "A Bottle of Milk," "The Proposal" and "Tweedledum Rescued." We left the cosy hall at the conclusion of the las'tnamed's amusing antics, an absolute convert to the moving pictures. Fancy, pathetic, historical and sensational drama, unique and magnificent scenic views from the earth's four quarters, hilarious comedies by the world-famed artists, and the whole time occupied two hours and a quarter. Then ask, "Will moving pictures last?" We feel inspired to say "They have hardly started."
ROYAL PICTURES AND ORCHESTRA,
The excellent programme shown for the first time on Saturday at the matinee and again in the evening attracted large audiences on hoth occasions. The new pictures are in the main a splendid selection. Two gorgeously colored films, entitled "The Charm of Flowers" (a ballet pantomime by Pathe Freres) and "Vami, the Troubadour" (a dramatic masterpiece by the same firm) are easily the star pictures of the present programme, and well worthy of a visit alone. Other pictures, to 'be shown tonight for the last time here, are "The Snail" (a scientific film), "Doings at the Ranch" (Western Comedy) "Fisher Folks" (an A.B. drama), "White Nigger" (comic), the very latest London Gazette (topical, showing colored Parish fashions in hairdressing), "Poor Sick Men" (A.B. drama), "Who Owns the Mat" (comic), and "Her New Place" (comic). The musical portion of the programme was up to the high standard, and is a credit to the Royal Pictures proprietary. Since the removal of the operating box downstairs the pictures are much brighter, and this has proved a good move on the management's part. The prices of admission also have been reduced to Cd and Is. To-night's programme will !>.. submitted to pictureovers nt W.iii.ra. at St. John's hall, to-moinnv (Tuesday) night.
