WAREA DAIRY FACTORY.
ANNUAL MEETING. <*>(>«■ Our Own Correspondent.) The fifteenth annual meeting of the shareholders of the Warca Co-operative Dairy f'o, Ltd.. was held in the hall on Monday afternoon, a large number of shareholders being present. Mr. Burgess moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Regarding the prices of butter during the past season, he said that he had fe,lt sure it waH going to be a good year for butter, but they had "fallen in," for the butter got down very low. Then there was the accidents that was always happening to the machinery last year; but now the directors had got everything in good, safe order for the coming season. The fuel cost £SO more this year than last. The turbine had not been in the best of working order, and more steam had to he used. The cartage had increased by £lO owing to the failure of the motor waggons. The repairs expenditure, which amount to £lßl, was chiefly caused by the installation of two new separators. The working cost was similar to that of last year. The liability to the bank had increased by £450. Increased output meant less cost of working. He spoke highly in favor of testing. If farmers were to test their cows they would soon find the difference. He also spoke of the necessity for growing feed, draining and manuring the land to get the best results out of it. In regard to the breeding of cattle, he said people went in too much for any sort !of breed that they could pick up cheap at the sales. It was a great mistake to buy mongrels. To improve the breed of cattle they should get good bulls.
Tho balance-sheet and report were adopted. Some discussion took place over the directors' honoraria (£2O) last year. The chairman said he had taken £7 10s himself and divided the balance amongst the directors.
Some grievances were aired by the wood contractor, who thought it was not fair for anyone else to cart mixed woods to the factory without tenders being called for same, as one of the directors had carted a few loads for an experiment, A supplier expressed the opinion that any supplier should be able to take small quantities of wood to the factory if he liked. No action was taken.
The following directors were elected: —Messrs Charles Wells, Alexander MacDonald and Charles Magon. Mr. C. T. Mills was re-elected auditor. It was decided to vote the chairman £lO and the directors 5s each for each meeting during the coining year. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the chairman and directors.
Mr. Burgess proposed a vote of thanks, to the factory manager (Mr. Taylor). Mr. Mac-Donald though one vote was not ei.ongh inv' said it ought to be "two" votes of thanks!
This concluded the business, and the bonuses were paid out, which was regarded by everyone as the best feature of the meeting.
