THE BARQUE RONA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Messrs. A. H. Turnbull and Co., owners of the barque Rona, received a telegram this morning from the harbormaster at Hokianga stating that a barque was in sight from the heads there, but that the wind was easterly and this would prevent her from making port quickly. They consider that the vessel is the Rona.
A HASTINGS LTST. Hastings, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court, Albert Ernest Reams , who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to sixteen months' imprisonment for failing to account for moneys collected on behalf of the Tribune, Ltd. Cornelius Collins was fined £lO, in default thre months' imprisonment, for breach of a. prohibition order. Frederick Ewart, charged with cruelty and illtreating a horse, was committed for trial to the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed, £SO and two sureties of £25 each. BOOKIES HEAVILY FINED. Auckland, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day Jesse Lynn Cotton and William Cray were each fined £4O for having plied the calling of bookmakers. Edward Chitham and John Snrtes, for a similar offence, were fined £3O.
