Needless .to say, the success of the veteran Paritutu. in the Grand National Steeplechase on Tuesday, was the signal for au outburst of enthusiasm at Hiecarton, and when the news flashed through many Tarnnaki punters had good reason to feel about it. Mr . Jervey" George lum stuck to the old MJa rse gamely, and in landing the big ra«o has completely confounded the cranes. I must confess that at one time I considered Paritutu a horse to be written oir, but recent form has drawn back to the fold his many admirers. According to accounts of the race, Antarctic and Oorazon made most of the running, and Paritutu came on when tie others wore tiring and won cleverly. It is a race worth winning, and Mr. George comes in for a round of congratulation. wo Hastings did not "win a pile" as expected! Writing of the Grand Na™"al l«st week the Napier writer, The Squire,' stated: "If Ctorazon wins the Grand National Steeplechase, and any of the Hastings-trained eqiunes (it does not matter which) wins the Grand National Hurdles, they are going to hoist, flags and proclaim a' halfholiday at Hastings, and later on keen the bank open to receive the boorllo if the?' eannot pet it ail in in the usual working hours."
