FOUR STUDENTS KILLED. Paris, August 9. Ten medical students were motoring after a festive gathering, when a tyre burst and the motor dashed into a barber's shop. Four students were killed, and the rest seriously injured. BRITISH CROP REPORTS. •London, August 9. The Times reports on British crops (taking 100 as a standard crop) is: Wheat 95, barley 86.fi, oats 83.3. FATAL BOILER EXPLOSION. Rotterdam, August 9. The boiler of the steamer Gutenberg exploded and the vessel sank. Two of the crew were killed and two seri; ously injured. A number of passengers were also injured.

Sir Edward Grey, in reply to a question whether Major Stokes' appointment to the command of the Persian forces included Northern Persia, said that there were strong grounds for considering that such an appointment would be inconsistent: with the AngloRussian agreement.
