MASONIC

FAREWELL TO WOR. BRO. E. CHATTERTON. There .was a large and representative gathering of Freemasons at the Robo street Masonic Hall last night at the •rdimry monthly meeting of the Mt. Egmont Lodge. The occasion wag also utilised to farewell Wor. Bro. E. Chatter ton, treasurer of the lodge, who is shortly leaving for Gore. The chair was occupied by Wor. Bro. W. H. Broome, and in addition to a full muster from the Alt. Egmont, De Burgh Adams and iMoa lodges, there were present visitors from various lodges in the province. Prior to dosing the lodgie, Wor. Bro. F. C. Rellringer, on behaJf ot the members, presented Wor. Bro. E. Chattertom with a treasurer's Masonic jewel a3 a memento of the esteem in which he was held, Wor. Bro. Chatterton having been a member of the lodge for thirteen years, during the latter five ol which he was treasurer.

Two or three pleasant hoars were spent in harmony. An. excellent musical programme was given, consisting of several items by the De Burgh Adams orchestra, songs (by Bros. Holland, Thompson and Brooking, violin aolo by Bro. A. L. Cooke, and recitations by Bros. Broome and Joll. Bro. Hoskins presided at the piano. Wor. Bro. Bellringer, in proposing the health of the gv.est of the evening, referred to the high qualities possessed by Wor. Bro. Chatterton not only as a Mason, but also as a citizen in Friendly Society and church matters, and 1 that his departure would be keenly felt by all. Wor. Bro. Brooking, of De Burgh Adams Lodge, also paid a high tribute to Wor. Bro. Chatterton, as also did Wor. Bro. Asher.

Wor. Bro. Chatterton feelingly responded, and in conclusion stated that he regretted leaving his New Plymouth friends, and would like to tnke with him in his portmanteau Mt. Egmont, the Recreation Grounds and the Sugar LottTes—-a large order.
