TARANAKI v. WELLINGTON. The Jiret Northern Union match of the season in Taranaki will be played on the Sports Ground this iuftornoon, when 'the I 1 a nuutki and Wellington League teams will meet in what should be a close and interesting game. The Wellington team put up a hard fight against Auckland on Saturday, and although beaten toy 10 points to 8 was not disgraced. According to Auckland papers the form of the visiting team aame as a surprise to the majority of the spectators, who expected a fairly easy ■win lor the Aucklanders, but throughout a hard, keenly-contested game the issue was always in doubt. Auckland had a very strong team; but the Wellington players were quite as good l individually. Auckland won simply through superior combination and better knowledge of the fine points of the game. The Taranaki League is putting in the strongest team at its disposal, and a considerably stronger combination than that which did battle for Taranaki at Wanganui recently.
