DEATH OF ELSIE HOLLAND
EVIDENCE AT THE MAGISTRATE'S COURT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The charges against Mrs. Jane Burns Hartley, Mrs. Mary Hassell, Mrs. Charlotte Campbell and James Edward o'Shaugh.nessy, of being accessories after the fact of murder in connection with the death of the young woman, Elsie Alexandra Holland, on the night of June 14 at the home of Mrs. Martha O'Shauglinessy at First Avenue, Kingsland, came on .before Mr. Frazcr, S.M., to-day. Mr. Mays, in opening the case for the Crown, said that the four accused were charged under section 92 of the Crimes A«t. The parts played by each of the four accused were various. The most important section of evidence would be that of the two witnesses to whom Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Hassell made certain statements on the Sunday after Miss Holland died. It would seem dear from this evidence that Mrs Hassell was responsible for the .placing of the poison in the deceased's mouth, either after death or so shortly before death that deceased could not swallow it.
After evidence similar to that given against Mrs. O'Shaughnessy a few days ago, the hearing of the case was adjourned till to-morrow.
