A PENNY BANK
STRENGTHENING ITS POSITION. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 3, 10 p.m. London, August 3. Nine banks in Yorkshire subscribed £2,000,000 to enable the Yorkshire Penny Bank to become a company by capital instead of a company by guarantee. A second group of banks, including the Bank of England, will give individual guarantees. The step is taken owing to the anxiety about the Birkbcck Bank's suspension affecting the Penny Bank.
