DETECTION OF SUBMARINES FROM AEROPLANES. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright, Paris, August 2. During a series of experiments at Cherbourg for the detection of submarines by aeroplanes, two were discovered three miles out at sea from a height of 1000 feet. AN AVIATOR KILLED. London, August 2. Napier, on a Bristol bi-plane, while carrying a. passenger, was dashed to the ground by a gust of wind as he was descending at Brooklands. The engine struck and killed Napier, but the passenger escaped with a severe shock.
THE DAILY MAIL RACE. London, August 2. In the Daily Mail race, Valentine, continuing the flight, reached Exeter, and Cody reached Bristol. • ; :• LONG FLIGHT IN CANADA. Received 4, 12.50 a.m. Ottawa, August 3. The aviators McCurdy and Willard flew from Hamilton to Ontario, forty miles, in fifty minutes. This is the first long-distance cross-country flight in Canada.
