RIOTOUS RECRUITS
GIVE SERGEANT-MAJOR TROUBLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. Some 200 newly-enrolled territorials in ' the Hutt Valley received a summons to attend for •medical inspection last night. | The summonses were obeyed, but there i was a most ujimilitary-like display of riotous insubordination. For an hour before the appointed time a rajbble of youths marched about the streets of Petone, shouting, hooting, and tinbanging. On arriving at their destination, they defied all attempts of Stergt.Major Millet to range them in any semlblance of order, and for a time took charge of the proceedings. They laughed, boohed, and hooted at the sergeantmajor, throwing mud at him freely. He wisely kept his temper, and after one mud-slingpr had received chastisement at his hands the examination was proceeded with under difficulties. The worst culprits appeared to be boys of 16 or 17.
