BOXING.

THE RECENT CHAMPIONSHIPS. [Messrs. J. J. Stagpoolc, who represented the New Plymouth Boxing Association at the conference held in Invercargill last week to consider various matters connected 1 with Uhe sport, and A. C. Maxwell, who won the aanateur light-weight championship of New Zealand, returned from the south on Monday night. They were entertained by the committee of the association ait a supper in the Wihite Hart Hotel, a number of other boxing enthusiasts being present. Messrs. Stagpoolc and Maxwell gave interesting details of the happenings in InvercargiH, and spoke highly of the treatment extended by the officials of the Southland Boxing Association to the visitors. Amongst the toast honored were: "Messrs. Stagpoole' and Maxwell," proposed by Mr. L. B Webster (president of tlic New Plymouth Boxing Association), ahd responded to by the gentlemen named; 'The New Plymouth Boxing Association," proposed by Mr. Stagpoole, and Replied to by Mr. A. L. Cllaippell (hon. secretary ); "Sports who have assisted the Association," proposed by Mr. G, Griffiths, and responded to by Messrs. P. Flanagan and J. M. Jones; "Past Officials of the Association," proposed by Mr. Chappell and replied to by Messrs. Maxwell and H. Evans; "Our Host," proposed by Mr. A. Lovegirove, and responded to by Mr. W. G. Emery.
