ROYAL PICTURES
THE CORONATION FILMS. The unusually fine pictures put on, by the Royal Picture Proprietary at the Theatre Royal last night roused unwonted enthusiasm amongst the large audience. They went to see the Coronation procession in London, and an astonishingly' good pictorial replica was given of this century's moat important happening. It .was, of course, impossible' for colonial people to gutter any idea of the vaetness of the multitude, tie unexampled gorgeousness of the display or the splendour of the earth's capital ablaze with artistic emblems, by rending. Here, then, one looked familiarly into the faces of the King and Queen, rubbed shoulders with the legions of people, saw at close quarters innumerable foreign potentates, and went for a ride, 90 to speak, in the superb State coach drawn by the eight famous caparisoned "creamies." Knowing that it is a feat in cinemotgraphy to get thte film to New Plymouth in the short time that has elapsed since the Coronation, one expected an indifferent picture. On the contrary, the perfection of detail is literally dazzling, and it would be possible to recognise known people in the great crowds thronging tho world's most historic thoroughfares. The pictures not only familiarise one with . the might and majesty of the heart of Empire, but the eye seems, to look down the vista of the storied part and along the hopeful route of a greater future* Such subjects are an inspiration to the King's subjects. It is good to know that the management will be getting a further batch of Coronation subjects. Apart from the "star" film the programme was of real excellence, and tiie remarkable and wholesomely humorous picture story, "Babylas inherits a Panther," had tho effect intended by the geniuses who contrived it. "Hetmam Nicolaieff" is a powerful pocket drama, in which the thrills are strikingly underlined. There is, too, the notable "The Squatter and the Clown," quite a masterpiece in cinematographic arrangement. To-night., besides the Coronation series, there will be shown new films, including ".Scenes in China," "A Mexican Drama of Love and Hate," many comical picture I stories, the "Australian Gazette," "Sports I in the Indian Army," and many other I new films, a number being colored, i - - -
