| REMITS FROM TARANAKI. Tlu; Tarumiki County Council is ad--1 vised that the Conference of the JJew Zealand Counties Aswiatipn will" bo opened at Wellington on Tuesday, August 22. The Taranaki Council will be represented by its chairman, Mr. J. Browne, who will move the following remits:—< 1. That the Public Works Act bo amended so as to give the Governor power by proclamation to prohibit the removal of stone within five chains of any bridge, dam, ford, or weir, irrespective of the rights of riparian owners. 2. That the definition of public works in section 2. Public Works Act, 1908, b« amended so as to include stone crushing I site or stone breaking site. 3. That ail additional subsection he added to section 3, Public Works Act, | 1908, as follows: "After twenty-four, hours' notice to the owner or occupier to go through any land or over any bridge on such land other than land'or-1 cupied in a bona fide manner as a garden or ornamental shrubbery for the purpose of carting stone, gravel or other material from any river, stream or metal that may be on an adjacent owners' land." 4. That subsection 1 of section 8, Counties Act, 1908, be amended by strik- j ing out the words "actual travelling." J The section would then read: "The coun-i cil may from time to time vote such' reasonable sums as it deems sufficient, to defray the expenses only of councillors coming from a distance not exceeding three miles to attend meetings of the council." •5. That section 82 of the Counties i Act, 1008, be repealed and the following substituted: "The council may vote' the chairman an annual allowance at a rate not exceeding one hundred pounds per annum, and that the allowance may be voted annually or monthly as the council from time to time determine." o.' Hint the Stamp Act be amended so as to levy the same amount of stamp duty on an agreement under seal as if the agreement was under hand. ' 7. That the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Act, 1909, be amended so as to give the local authorities power to convert their loans to another term I should they so desire. | 8. That subsection 1 of section 7. Dog Registration Act, 1908, be amended so as to make it obligatory for the owner of a dog to register with the local authority in ivhose district such owner resides. A. That the Counties Act be amended so as to give the local authority power! to make a by-law making it compulsory to have the rear wheels of a fourwheejed vehicle winder by the width of the tyres than the front wheels, so that | the rear wheels would travel immediately on the outside of the front wheels.
