The first match of the combined North j Island country unions' representative team was played! here yestenhxy in very wet weather, the ground being very '' muddy. Leonard, and Downing until Barry finally received and scored. .MoKenzie converted. A few moments later the Auckland forwards carried play to the visitors' Mne, where Power picked up and passed out to McGregor, who sent the ball on to Stewart, and the latter scored a try which O'Lenry converted. Half-time was called with the score five all. Auckland got in the lead in the third quarter. 'I Turner picked up out of a loose rusli and passed to McGregor, who sent on to Hall, and the latter got across near touch-in-goal by sheer ftrenpth. The kfck at goal failed. When the teams changed over for the final quarter and the visitors had tlfe advantage of the -wind. Auckland had an anxious time. Sheahan; sides, Tamu, Dewar: lock, Young (Waimate); front row, M. Caini Osborne. Emergencies: Forward, Kissiek; back, Goodwin. The North Island team under the management of Mr. Wiley, secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union, arrived hy Pateena this morning. Their contest with Taranaki on Thursday 'should be an exciting one. A match in aid of the Way Bejicfifc Fund will be probably played in New Plymouth next Sat unlay between the Star and Clifton senior teams. In the Stratford v. New Plymouth Banks Law match played at Stratford yesterday the visitors won by 0 point* to 3. The game was not exciting, but amusing at times. A. Grant and 1 Hill scored for New Plymouth and Hill kicked a penalty goal. Stratford's score was a penalty goal kicked by Schofield. Mr. .T. H. Thompson was referee.
