JAPANESE TYPHOON
TWO VESSELS ASHORE. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Tokio, July 27. , The P. and 0. steamer Palermo was driven ashore in the typhoon but not damaged. The Empress of China struck a rock off Meraawa, in the Kinshu district. The passengers arc safe. It is expected tffe vessel will be refloated.
Vancouver, July 27.
Advices from Tokio state that the Empress of China, which left Vancouver on July 12, was stranded on a rock at the southern point of the Awa Peninsula, while inbound for Yokohama.
The accident occurred near the wreck of the Great Northern Company's Dakota. Vice-Admiral Saito sent the cruisers Aso and Saya to assist. They took off the mails and baggage, and 185 pas-
sengers. If the vessel is saved it will take three months to repair her.
