POLITICS IN N.S.W.

A TANGLED POSITION. By Cabla.—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, July.2B. The outgoing Ministry will continue the administration of their departments until a new Cabinet is formed. Late last night the Speaker resigned his position. This puts the position in a tangle hard to unravel except by a dissolution. The House will meet on Tuesday without a speaker. There are 44 members on each side, the Liberals and Independents against the Laborites. No member of the Labor Party will accept the Speakership. Mr. Holman states that the resignation of the Government was not contemplated until the resignations of Messrs. Home and Dunn caused the loss of the working majority on which they had relied since taking office. He saw that he could not carry the adjournment motion, and advised the .Lieuten-ant-Governor to prorogue the House until after the by-elections. As this suggestion was not accepted, the only* course left was to resign. Mr. Griffiths, in an interview, attacked the Lieutenant-Governor, asserting his partially and stating he had disfranchised the people by not acting on the advice of the Government, which on the last division in the House had a majority of five.

NO FRESH DEVELOPMENTS.

Received 29, 12.40 a.m. Sydney, July 28. There are no important developments in the political situation to-day. A cable from Mr. McGowen is still awaited. The caucus, at a lengthy meeting, discussed the situation. It is understood they decided, with a view to the byelection, that an addition be made to the Conversion Act Repeal Bill for safeguarding all existing rights of conversion. It is reported that Mr. Neilson opposed this decision.
