Several pithead riots have occurred in the Rhondda Valley, following a mass meeting at Ton-y-Pandy, the police defending the pits with baton charges. They were beaten back with a fusillade of stones. Several police and strikers weTe badly injured. Finally the military were called out and, with fixed bayonets, overawed and dispersed the rioters, including many women, who were more aggressive than the men. Infantry now patrol the hillsides. DEADLOCK IN NEGOTIATIONS. Received 27, 1.45-a.m. London, July 27. Negotiations at Cardiff hare reached a deadlock. The seamen will not return while the other strikers are unsatisfied. The masters refuse to negotiate until the strikers allow flour to be removed from the warehouses. Importations of frozen meat has ceased, and the docks and sidings are congested with coal. Eight thousand colliers are idle.
