FIRES.

OUTBREAK AT WHANGAMOMONA. THE HOTEL TOTALLY DESTROYED. Mr. F. CaJgher'a Whangamomomi Hotel was totally destroyed by fire at 2.30 a.m. yesterday. At mid-night there was no sign of the conflagration. Tma hours later, however, an alarm was given, and it was found that the Are had a good hold in an upstairs room, above the kitchen, and it is suggested that some defect in the chimney was probably the cause of the outbreak. AH efforts to stay the fire proved unavailing, and the house, together with its contents, was speedily destroyed. The property is owned' by Mr. R. Campbell, of New Plymouth, and is insured in the Commercial Union and other offices, but so far details are not available. Later information discloses the fact that the building was insured tot £IOOO in the Phoenix Office and for £SOO in the Commercial Union Office. The stock and furniture were insured in the Royal Exchange Office. The destruction of the hotel at this time is particularly unfortunate, as Mr. Fred father had jusf renovated the whole place, and under his capable management it was a most, popular and conufoTtaiblo hostelry.— T<*4.
