THE LATE POULTRY SHOW.

To tho Editor. . Sir, —In your issue of yesterday is a letter from a person who docs not or dares not sign his name, but hides in a cowardly manner behind a nom de plume. He says: "To pen up two pretty little toy terriers in a box about twelve inches by eight for a day or two, or to mete out the seame treatment to a line big pussy appears to me to be the finesse of cruelty." The dogs referred to were certainly in a box of about the size stated when they were brought to the Drill Hall on the morning before the flmw, and. remained in the box till the steward had time to look after them and place them in a-"proper pen. It was probably about that time (when admisr sion' was free) that "Quiz" happened along to "assist" the society to foster a love of animals. If, Quiz is the lover of animals lis tries, to make out, why did he not- make his complaint to the steward in charge, or to the secretary, instead of rushing.into print? The dogs were not kept in the box for a. day or two, and if Quiz had attended the show at the proper time, viz., when it was open to the public, he would have seen his error. With regard to cat he mentions, it repeatedly broke out of the wire cages, and the only thing to do was to confine it in something' that would hold it. 1 would advise Quiz, before making a complaint in such a public manner, to make sure of his facts, and, instead of trying to hamper men who are trying to do some good, to come along and help them. By doinfj so he will show a more humanitarian spirit, and will l>e more appreciated than in the role of a carping critc.—l am, etc., S. OREEN. Sec. T.P.P. and C. Society.
