HOCKEY.

EGMONT (5) v. TATARAIMAKA (3). Another of the series of matches between the above clubs was played on the racecourse on Saturday in ideal weather. Both teams were fully represented, and the display of hockey was the best yet given by these clubs. Egmont attacked from the bully-off, and rushed the ball into their opponent's circle, but the latter were enable to clear, and quickly carried play to the other end of the field, where, after some lively play in front of the goal, Turner found the net. Egmont were several times on the point of scoring during the next few minutes, and the Tatara backs were called on to stop two or three hot shots. The locals kept pegging away, however, and their efforts were rewarded when, after a neat bit of play by the forwards, Osborne placed a nice goal, bringing the scores level. Even play followed for the remainder of the spell, both teams working hard to increase the scores. On one occasion a Tatara. forward broke away on his own and beat the local backs, and it looked a certain score, but the Egmont goalkeeper was equal to the occasion and effected a good "save." The second spell was more in favor of the local men, whose forwards were playing well together, but it was not until the last quarter of an hour that they were enabled t# ! get ahead of their opponent's score. Tataraimaka's backs were not playing too well to-, wards the finish, and the Egmont forwards put on four more goals, Lepine, Putt and Osborne (2) being responsible for the increase in the score. Turner and Angus added a goal each for the losers during this fell, and the game ended: Egmont 5, Tataraimaka 3. Mr. Clap ham was referee.
