Colonel Sylvestre, the Spanish Commandant, grossly insulted Lieut. Thiriet, the French instructor of the Moorish forces outside Alcazar, when he was arrested and brought under escort to him. Thiriet was ultimately released. Paris, July 22. Sylvestre, apologising to M. Boisset, states that he imprisoned the principal offender in connection with the incident. Madrid, July 22. Don Sylvestre alleges that Lieut. Thiriet boxed a Spanish corporal's ears. A lieutenant of Spanish cavalry thereupon courteously invited Thiriet to visit Colonel Sylvestre to explain the affair. Sylvestre, he says, was never arrested.
