SHOT THROUGH THE HEART.
NOW STRONG AND WELL. '< Although shot through the heart, Mike Laugor, of Bute, Montana (U.S.A.) is now strong and well, and is working every day. Not only was his heart wall punctured by the lead, but twentynine ounces of blood were pumped from his thoracic cavity. It was while hunting near Elk Park that Langer accidentally discharged the gun he carried, and poured the full charge into his left breast. He was taken to the hospital, where Physician Carl H. Horst gave him immediate attention.
The wound was cleansed and the patient was not allowed to change his position for fear that a sudden jar might cause the heart valves to break • and result in his bleeding to death. The heart could be heard running in the clotted blood, and Dr. Horst decided to remove the fluid with an aspirator. Ounce after ounce flowed out until twenty-nine of them had been extracted, and then the heart sounded clear and strong in thecavity, Langer is an Austrian, 35 years of age. He. possesses a splendid physique, which helped him greatly in recovering from the wound.'
