MILLIONAIRES' ESTATES

TOLL PAID TO THE STATE. The year 1910 was a record one for the magnitude of the estates on which probate duty was paid to the British Exchequer, a round dozen of these fortunate persons having passed away within 12 months. Four estates have ten put down for a nominal million—those of Lord Winter.stoke, Lord Swaythling,! Lord Airedale and Mr John Foster—and when the full amount of duty has. been paid on these four fortunes, which aTe many times greater than the provisional estimate, it is believed that the total of the duties paid to the Exchequer last year will prove the greatest on record. The following are 'the names and estates of the niillionaires who paid toll to the Chancellor last year;— Sir "Edward P. Wills, Imperial Tobacco Company, £2,580,095. Baron Schrocder, mercliant banker, | £2,079,611.

Anton Dunkels , diamond merchant, £1,588,593.

Sir Walter Scott, Taihvay contractor and publisher, £1,424,130. | Sir William Agnew, dealer in works of art, £1,303,698.

Henry Silver, formerly of the Punch staff, £1,197,887.

Lord Swathling, banker, as far as at present can be ascertained, £1,150,000. Charles Butler, collector of works of art, £1,148,350. Sir John Aird, contractor, £1,101,489.

John Faster, worsted spinner, as far as at present can be ascertained, £I,OOO- -

Lord Winitcrstokc, Imperial Tobacco Company, so far as at present call bo ascertained, ,C 1,000,000. Lord Airedale, engineer, so far as at present can be ascertained, £1,000,000. The estates have also been resworn of— Charles Morrison , formerly a haberdasher, £10,930,000. Albert Beit, diamond merchant, £B, 049,010.
